FRAMING.

Framing can be difficult to choose, especially if you want to do the piece justice.

I understand that framing can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, so I’ve put together a few tips to help you ensure that the beautiful piece of art you’ve just purchased is displayed perfectly in your home.

Framing Your Prints

For Paper Prints:

If you’ve received your print rolled up in an art tube, be cautious when removing it. Gently unroll it and lay it flat on its back. Allow it to naturally flatten out; there’s no need to place heavy objects on the edges as this could cause creases in your print—definitely something to avoid! In most cases, the print will flatten out quickly and be ready for framing. While standard size frames will work for many of my prints, you might need to have a custom mat board cut to the right size by a professional framer.

Professional Framing

I highly recommend using a professional framer for your prints. They can assist with selecting colours, matting, and are experts at handling prints, especially when it comes to removing them from art tubes without damage.

Do it Yourself Framing

Key things to think about when framing your work is:

  • Make sure you use archival acid free materials

  • Matt borders help the piece to stand out

  • Choose something you love – framing can make such a difference so make sure to pick a style that suits you and your home

  • A lot of my work will look good in a natural timber such as Tasmanian Oak or a dark coloured frame but it really is up to you.

MAT BOARDS

Including a mat board provides some breathing space between the frame and the edge of the artwork. All my prints include a white border so will lend themselves well to this style of framing. Mat boards come in various colours so you'll be able to choose the colour that best helps the artwork pop but also blends into where the artwork where live. Professional framers will be able to help you choose the best mat board colour for the artwork.

BOX FRAME

You also have the option to mount your print or original piece on top of the mat board rather than underneath it

This sits the artwork at the rear of the frame, with a gap between the artwork and the glass. You'll be able to see the shadow underneath the artwork which really brings to piece to life.
