Home is a painting for my friend Mark Skiba, who we lost this year. He was a quiet, calm, gentle soul, taken far too soon.
 
Mark loved wombats. Koalas and kangaroos are so often the symbols of Australian wildlife, but he saw something special in wombats. Cute and cuddly, yet seriously fierce. Don’t mess with a wombat, they say.
He once asked me to paint him a wombat. I bought the canvas, but never started. When he died, I deeply regretted that. When I finally did begin, the painting became a journey.
 
If you’ve ever been to Mark and Michael’s home, you’ll remember the beautiful Mediterranean blue door set into crisp white brick walls. Blue was Mark’s favourite colour, inspired by his European travels. His little wombat now sits at the door. He’s safe. He’s home. He’s always going to be there.
It was a hard painting to finish. I thought about Mark constantly. His attention to detail stayed with me throughout the process, so much so that I restarted the painting several times. It had to be right. It had to be Mark.
 
I thought a lot about his battle with cancer, how difficult it must have been, and it put my own small, everyday worries into perspective. The things that feel so heavy sometimes suddenly felt very small.
I kept coming back to that conversation about painting him a wombat, and I think I finally understood what he meant. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how long it takes. You just have to do the thing.

Paper 
Pigment ink prints on high-quality paper, these paper prints are printed on Hahnemuhle Hemp and are a high-quality replica of the original piece.

Shipping 
Each piece will take 2-3 weeks to be ready for pickup/delivery. Paper pieces will come rolled in an art tube.
 
Embellished Art Prints 
These are Limited edition prints with extra added detail such as paint drips and spray to ensure each print is a unique piece.
